Meet The Team

Charlie

Charlie has been with Gulf Marine of Clearwater since 1991, bringing decades of expertise in Evinrude and Johnson engine rebuilding. Trained by seasoned mechanics — including one who worked on Evinrude motors before WWII — Charlie has become a go-to instructor and trusted technician.

A certified Evinrude mechanic since 1993, he services Johnson, Evinrude Ficht, Ocean Pro, Mercury, and Yamaha outboards, and even has deep knowledge of legacy Force motors. Beyond repairs, he also sells both new and used boat trailers from Magic Tilt, Continental, and Fast Load.

Charlie’s friendly nature and deep experience have made him a familiar face to most of our customers. Forget his name? Just remember: Charlie Brown.

Jed

Jed may talk like Boomhauer from King of the Hill, but don’t let that fool you — he’s a true craftsman. A Clearwater native with trade school training in auto body repair, Jed brings exceptional skill to the marine world through fiberglass work, hull repairs, and expert boat painting.

From transoms to decals, bottom painting to custom outboard finishes, Jed handles it all — Johnson, Yamaha, Mercury, HydraSports, Boston Whaler, and more. His attention to detail and love for all things colorful make him a key figure in Gulf Marine’s restoration magic.

We’re still not convinced he isn’t secretly a Jedi. Around here, we call him: Return of the Jed.

Lori

Lori is the heart and voice of Gulf Marine of Clearwater. With a warm smile and decades of experience, she’s known by most of our customers — and knows them by name. A certified Parts Pro through Bombardier, Lori is an expert in Evinrude, Johnson, Yamaha, Mercury, Sierra, OMC, and BRP parts, including both new and obsolete inventory.

Whether you’re looking for powerheads, gear cases, Coast Guard gear, or a hard-to-find outboard part, Lori’s the one who’ll track it down — from Clearwater to the Florida Keys. She’s passionate, knowledgeable, and always ready to help.

We call her The Lorax — and yes, she’s been known to wear the costume, too.

David

David’s journey in boat building began at the age of 13, when he built his first vessel, and he hasn’t stopped since. A proud West Virginia native and graduate of West Virginia University, he went pro in the marine industry in 1989 after returning from years abroad in Colombia (yes, he’s fluent in Spanish).

At Gulf Marine, David handles structural fiberglass repair, marine plumbing (including fuel, water, and waste), electrical systems, custom carpentry, and spray painting. He’s also EPA-certified in air conditioning and refrigeration because when it comes to boats, there’s not much he can’t fix.

Trained under master builder Dan Avery, who himself was mentored by legendary Clark Mills, David brings legacy craftsmanship to every project. He’s worked with respected names like Richard Watkins, Vodka Yacht, Sanibel Captiva, and served as a quality inspector for Intrepid Powerboats under John Mitchell.

For David, boat repair isn’t just a job, it’s a passion. He believes in doing things right the first time, and his mission is simple: keep every customer’s boat safe, sound, and seaworthy.

Bonus fact: He’s a big fan of action movies, but when he’s on the job, it’s all precision and performance.
